US President Joe Biden revealed that an agreement to release hostages held in Gaza is currently under discussion, alongside a “six-week” cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
“We are working hard for peace, security and dignity for both the Palestinian and Israeli people. I work on that day and night,” Biden told reporters after talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah.
The US President emphasized the “necessity of protecting” Palestinian civilians in Rafah in the event of an Israeli ground military operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
King Abdullah II echoed this sentiment, calling for an “immediate and sustainable ceasefire.” He warned that any Israeli ground attack on Rafah would likely result in a new humanitarian catastrophe.
