US President Joe Biden on Thursday, December 9, will discuss with the leaders of Eastern European countries his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Representatives from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia are expected to take part in the conference call with Biden. The US President is going to talk with them about the situation on the Ukrainian border and declare the importance of “transatlantic security” for the United States.

Biden and Putin video summit

Biden and Putin held talks by video link on December 7, they lasted about two hours. Politicians discussed the increase in the number of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine. Biden promised tough sanctions in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, which would mean the country’s isolation from the global financial system. In conversation, Putin spoke out against NATO’s eastward expansion.

Biden later said he planned to hold talks with NATO member countries with Russia and discuss both eastward expansion of the alliance and ways to reduce tensions on the “eastern front.”
