US President Joe Biden will temporarily transfer his powers to Vice President Kamala Harris due to the medical examination, which will be carried out under anesthesia, reports The Hill, citing White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
“President Biden will hand over power to the Vice President for a short period of time while he is under anesthesia,” Psaki said. “The Vice President will be working from his office in the West Wing during this time,” she added.
The Hill notes that Biden will undergo a colonoscopy under anesthesia. The examination will take place at the Walter Reed Medical Center.
The transfer of power while the president is under anesthesia is not unusual, Psaki said. In particular, according to her, a similar procedure was carried out in 2002 and 2007. under President George W. Bush.
