With the biggest attack yet, Kiev is trying to hurt Moscow

Joe Biden has endorsed a new US nuclear strategy to prepare for a possible coordinated nuclear strike by Russia, China and North Korea. This was made clear by a revised nuclear strategy signed by the US president in March, which the New York Times reported earlier this week.

The document, which was previously unknown, explains the need for changes in nuclear strategy, emphasizing the threat posed by China’s “rapid expansion of its nuclear arsenal.” The publication said the Pentagon believes that China’s stockpiles will rival those of the US and Russia in size and variety within the next decade.

The US-based Arms Control Association said it understood that the US nuclear weapons strategy and posture remained the same as described in the administration’s 2022 Nuclear Posture Review and there had been no reorientation from Russia to China.

A White House spokesman clarified that the existence of this document is not a secret, but the text in it is classified. He added that the guidance is not a response to a specific entity, country or threat. However, there are suspicions that, in addition to Beijing’s rapid build-up of a nuclear arsenal, the revised strategy comes at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

Against this background, Kiev is trying hard to hurt Moscow by continuing its offensive in the Kursk region, and on Tuesday night it launched its biggest ever drone attack against the Russian capital, Moscow. However, Russia reacted quickly – the mayor of the capital Sergei Sobyanin announced that air defenses shot down 10 drones during the night and 2 more on Wednesday morning. They did not reach the city, but were neutralized in the Moscow region. There were no casualties or property damage.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have been subjected to multiple Russian frontline attacks in Toretsk and Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian army, Russia is concentrating its attacks west of Donetsk, where the evacuation of the civilian population has also begun. Kiev reported that its forces repulsed 49 Russian attacks on Tuesday.
