by time news
  • Doctors, nutritionists, psychologists and psychiatrists, as well as specialists in letters and data science participate in this project.
  • The objective is to promote a healthy lifestyle based on five areas: diet, physical activity, restful sleep, socio-emotional skills and mindfulness.
  • In a first stage it will only be available to university students but later it will be open to the public.

The maximum indication that doctors make to their patients is to have a healthy lifestyle. But although it sounds simple, in reality the problem is that most do not know how to do it. It is necessary to have a personal advisor and now, with the support of technology, it is possible to have one on the phone.

The solution is called “Well Star” and for the final stage of this project there is the work of health professionals from different areas. The ultimate goal is to promote a balanced diet, physical activity, restful sleep, socio-emotional skills and mindfulness.

Alejandro Chávez, professor at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, together with a multidisciplinary team of more than 12 professors from Mexico, Colombia and Chile, participate in the Development of this health app to promote the physical and emotional well-being of university students.

In this project participate doctors, nutritionists, psychologists and psychiatristsas well as specialists in letters and data science to promote a healthy lifestyle in 5 different spheres: diet, physical activity, restful sleep, socio-emotional skills and mindfulness.

Promote a healthy lifestyle in a fun way

The app is made up of games that challenge users to earn points and rewards while building and demonstrating healthy habits. They also participate in team competitions that could help increase certain routines, such as overcoming the challenge of steps traveled in a week.

Players can raise their level according to the accumulated points and identify in which position they are, in such a way that they compare themselves with people of the same range of development, avoiding demotivation due to unattainable goals or boredom.

“The rankings vary according to each sphere that we approach and are based on an inter-spatial narrative in order to give strength to the game. Additionally, there is a calendar where they can register progress and personal commitments”.

“BienStar” was presented in November 2022 within the framework of the first “Flourising” Human Flourishing Congress held in Colombia. International speakers participated with proposals for development, intervention and socio-emotional skills.

“In this space we were able to share ideas, collaborate on projects and raise funds around research and innovations to achieve human flourishing, therefore, it was a great opportunity to publicize the initiatives that we are doing from Mexico.”

By February of this year, “BienStar” will only be available to students from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, considering students who are studying the Health and Personal Well-being program. However, the multidisciplinary team involved is working to make the application available to the general public soon.
