Special commentary on the national team’s first game at 7:30 PM on the 13th
Yang Hyun-jong “I think I can win if I go to Tokyo Dome”
‘Big pitcher’ Yang Hyun-jong, who was also very active as the national team’s ace, debuts as a commentator.
Yang Hyun-jong will take the microphone to broadcast the game in the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier 12 Korean national team’s first game against Taiwan, held at Taipei Dome in Taiwan at 7:30 pm on the 13th.
Yang Hyun-jong, who showed consistent performance this season and set a record of becoming the first KBO player to pitch 170 innings in 10 consecutive seasons and making 400 career starts, recorded a victory in the Korean Series and contributed to the KIA Tigers’ victory.
As he has a lot of experience competing with Chinese Taipei as a member of the national team, Yang Hyeon-jong is expected to deliver high-quality commentary by keeping his memories alive.
Hyeonjong Yang said, “I’m very nervous, but I think I’m even more excited. “I will try to speak comfortably and without feeling as much pressure as possible,” he said, expressing his feelings about appearing as a commentator for the first time.
Yang Hyeon-jong, who has consistently pitched for the national team since 2010, said to his juniors, “You must take pride in being a member of the national team. He gave advice, saying, “We should not worry about the team we belong to and only form a team as a national team with the Taegeuk symbol to achieve good results.”
As this national team is comprised of young players such as Kim Do-young (KIA), Kim Taek-yeon (Doosan Bears), and Yoon Dong-hee (Lotte Giants), Yang Hyeon-jong selected the ‘young players’ spirit’ as the strength of the national team.
However, he said, “I am most excited about Park Dong-won (LG Twins), a veteran catcher who has to watch all positions and lead.”
He then expressed his strong belief, saying, “(The national team’s) first goal is to advance to the Super Round and head to Tokyo Dome, but I think they will definitely win if they head to Tokyo Dome.”
Lastly, Yang Hyun-jong said, “The season is over, but there are important competitions remaining. “I believe that the players selected for the national team will do their best, and since this is the last tournament of the year, I ask for your interest and support,” he said, sending a message to baseball fans.
Korea, belonging to Group B of the tournament, starts against Taiwan on the 13th, then meets Cuba on
There will be fierce competition for the right to advance to the super round, which will be given to the second place in the group.

Time.news Editor: Welcome, everyone, to this special interview here at Time.news. Today, we have the privilege of speaking with Yang Hyun-jong, a renowned pitcher and now a first-time commentator for the Korean national baseball team at the WBSC Premier 12. Welcome, Yang!
Yang Hyun-jong: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to be here and to talk about the upcoming games.
Editor: You recently transitioned from being an ace pitcher to a commentator. How does it feel to be on the other side of the microphone, especially for such a significant event?
Yang: Honestly, it’s a mix of nerves and excitement. I’ve spent so many years on the field playing, and now stepping into this role is a new challenge for me. I just want to share my insights and help fans feel the same thrill I felt when I was playing.
Editor: That’s a great perspective. As someone who has had a long and successful career, can you tell us about your experiences with the national team, particularly against Taiwan, given that they’re our first opponents?
Yang: Absolutely. Competing against Taiwan has always been intense and meaningful. I remember many close games, and the atmosphere is electric. Those memories are fresh in my mind, and I hope to bring that passion to my commentary.
Editor: You mentioned that this national team includes many young players. What advice do you have for them as they prepare for this tournament?
Yang: I encourage them to take pride in wearing the Taegeuk symbol, which represents our country. They should not let the pressure from their individual teams weigh down their spirit as members of the national team. Forming a strong unit is essential for achieving good results.
Editor: You also highlighted a veteran, Park Dong-won, as a key player. How important do you think veteran leadership is in tournaments like this?
Yang: Extremely important. Park Dong-won has a wealth of experience and savvy that can guide the younger players. He not only has to manage his own position but also lead and support the entire team, which is crucial in high-stakes games.
Editor: With your extensive background, what do you believe is the national team’s greatest strength going into this tournament?
Yang: I think the spirit of the young players will be our greatest asset. They bring energy and enthusiasm, which can be incredibly contagious. If they channel that energy positively, it can make a big difference on the field.
Editor: You’ve also set a clear goal for the team: advancing to the Super Round and then to the Tokyo Dome. What makes you so confident about winning if you make it to the Dome?
Yang: I strongly believe in the talent of our players and their dedication. The experience at the Dome is unparalleled, and if they make it there, I think we’ll see them perform at their best.
Editor: As we wrap up, what message do you want to send to the fans who’ll be cheering for the national team?
Yang: I want to say thank you for all the support throughout the season. This year isn’t over yet—there are important matches ahead! I believe the players selected will put in their utmost effort, and I hope everyone rallies behind them. Let’s make this tournament memorable!
Editor: Thank you, Yang Hyun-jong, for joining us today and sharing your insights. We wish you the best as you embark on this exciting new role as a commentator and hope to see our national team achieve great things in the tournament!
Yang: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure, and I look forward to the games ahead!
