Pranav Priyadarshi: After achieving a good pace in the first phase of their career, girls usually face speed breakers like family and pregnancy-delivery. In Nidhi Joseph’s case, the obstacles proved even more difficult and bigger than usual because cancer was also involved. Then she had given birth to her second child and was thinking that a break of two-three years would suffice. But suddenly she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and within no time eight years passed by.

First the thyroid gland was removed through surgery, then he had to suffer the side effects of radioactive iodine. It took five years to recover from all this. By then both the children had grown up. Naturally, Nidhi felt that now the end of her career which had been completely lost, should be caught again. She did engineering in Electronics and Communication and had worked with Patni Computer Systems, IBM and PwC. But after the long gap that had come, the work had to start afresh. So, Nidhi thought that if nothing else, she would get the job of teaching. Considering his experience, private schools may consider hiring him.

Here, Nidhi’s first child, her daughter, who was by now intelligent enough to give her suggestions regarding career, came in handy. Nidhi’s old colleagues also motivated her. Finally Nidhi put her resume on a job portal. Technology was his hobby from the beginning, but the problem was that everything had changed in this field. For example, he had worked on version 4.0 of SAP but now version 8.0 was running in the market. But due to her hobby, even during her illness, she was keeping an eye on the changes in technology as much as possible. It all paid off when, within two weeks of posting my resume on the job portal, I was contacted by Accenture for a Transformation Excellence Analyst position. The hesitation that was there during the interview also ended. He found that the company’s attitude towards his problems was quite positive and flexible. As a result, today while Nidhi has reclaimed her career, the company is also benefiting from her skills and experience.
