bigger screen than Mate XT

by time news

The Korean company is almost ready to launch its first rollable smartphone, which will have a very large screen.

Let’s get back to talking about foldable smartphones, which have come back into fashion again thanks to the announcement of the first triple-fold smartphone made by Huawei, called the Mate XT Ultimate. Obviously, Samsung doesn’t want to sit back and watch and there will soon be something better than the recent Galaxy Z Fold 6.

In 2021, a patent application from Samsung regarding its rollable phone has surfaced on the web. Since then, the development of this device has appeared multiple times online and its official launch was speculated in 2025. After almost a year since the last rumors, we finally have new information about this device.

According to the latest news, TheElec confirms that Samsung’s rollable phone could actually launch in 2025. The report indicates that the device will have a huge 12.4 inch display that can be rolled up. For comparison, Huawei’s recent triple-fold phone has a 10.2-inch display when fully unfolded.

It is also rumored that the rollable phone will feature technology that will allow the under-display camera. Samsung’s book-style foldables, like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, already use this technology for one of their front-facing cameras. However, it’s not yet clear how many cameras the new rollable phone will use the technology, especially given the device’s different shape.

Huawei’s triple-fold smartphone

Interestingly, Samsung was working on a triple-fold device as early as 2021 and even unveiled a prototype. However, the phone never made it to market. Meanwhile, Huawei became the first company in the world to release a triple-fold device with the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate.

Why has the Korean company lost ground? The answer is actually very simple and depends on Samsung’s business strategy. The Mobile Experience division, responsible for devices such as smartphones, has recently been focusing on cost reduction to increase profitability, to the point of stopping the production of demonstration models supplied to mobile phone stores starting this year.
