The United Janata Dal is ruling Bihar with the support of the BJP. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the BJP leadership have been at loggerheads recently.
For the past few months, Nitish Kumar has been avoiding BJP-organised consultative meetings and meetings with Prime Minister Modi. Specifically, Nitish Kumar ignored four important programs of the central government in 3 weeks, from the inauguration of the President to the Niti Aayog meeting.
As a result, when it was said that he was going to leave the alliance with the BJP, it was reported that he contacted Sonia Gandhi over phone and asked for time to meet her.
Following this, Nitish Kumar held a meeting with his party MLAs, MPs and executives. Participants in the meeting were asked to leave their mobile phones outside.
Nitish Kumar has submitted his resignation letter to Bihar Governor Bahu Chauhan. The issue has sparked a stir in national politics.
In the 2020 elections to the 243-member assembly, the BJP has 77 members. United Janata Dal has 45 members and other parties in the alliance have 9 members. Similarly, Rashtriya Janata Dal has 79 members, Congress 19 and Left parties 16.
