Jamui: On the initiative of the central government, turnip cultivation will soon be started in the sandy soil area to make the farmers of the district economically prosperous. Through this, more income will be generated in less time and less cost. Krishi Vigyan Kendra head Dr. Sudhir Kumar said that turnip crop not only gets ready in 40 to 60 days. But its consumption also keeps health good. He said that the most suitable soil for this is sandy or loamy soil.
Cultivation of turnip
This soil provides complete nutrition to the turnip plants. Due to which its crop is of good quality. It is a crop of cold climate and 12 to 30 degree temperature is suitable for it. This crop is fully ready within 40 to 60 days of planting. Pusa Shweta and Pusa Kanchan take 45 to 50 days to be ready.
Central government will help
Whereas the other variety gets ready in 60 days. It can be cultivated in the month of August. This gives good income to the farmers. It is sold at the rate of 2200 to 2300 per quintal in the open market. Farmers can adopt it as a high income crop amidst low rainfall. Initially, it will be cultivated in some areas this year. According to doctors, it is beneficial in heart disease and blood pressure. It also keeps the kidney, liver and lungs healthy. Farmers can adopt its cultivation as an option that gives more profit at low cost.
