Bhagalpur: Bhagalpur police has achieved a major success by exposing a gang that used to extort money from people by creating fake Facebook IDs of officials. This gang especially targeted high-profile people. The gang was exposed when people were being asked for money by creating a fake ID on Facebook in the name of the District Magistrate of Bhagalpur.
Seeing the seriousness of the case, Bhagalpur’s Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar ordered immediate action. Under the supervision of City SP Raj, a special team was formed under the leadership of DSP Line cum Cyber Thana Incharge SHO Sanjeev Kumar. The team worked very smartly and arrested three people from Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The police have also arrested a mastermind in this case.
The gang’s network is spread across many states: SP
City SP Raj told in the press conference that, ‘Based on technical investigation and information received from various sources, it was found that this gang is active in many states. This is an organized gang, which works to cheat people.’ He further said that, ‘In the investigation so far, the involvement of criminals from the states of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar has come to the fore.’
First raids were conducted in MP, then in Uttarakhand: SP
He said that the Bhagalpur police team first raided Hari village in Ramnagar police station area of Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh, from where an accused named Kailash Manjhi was arrested. Police have also recovered mobile phones and SIM cards from him. After this, on July 12, the team raided Raipur village in Bhagwanpur police station area of Haridwar district of Uttarakhand and arrested the masterminds of this case, Abhishek Khurana and Arvind. Police have recovered 43 checkbooks, 8 passbooks, 4 ATM cards, 2 Aadhar cards, 1 driving license and 3 PAN cards from the accused.
