Saw: The EOU is tightening its grip on the officers who have acquired property worth crores by colluding with the sand mafia. In this connection, the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police raided several places of former mining inspector of Bhojpur, Ranjit Kumar, who is accused of colluding with the sand mafia and possessing more property than his known sources of income. However, this raid lasted for two days. The agency officials raided several places simultaneously.
Search warrant issued by court
According to a press release issued by the EOU, on September 5 and 6, five teams led by an inspector rank officer conducted simultaneous raids at five different locations including Ranjit’s ancestral house in Khajekala area of Patna city, three in Bhojpur and one in Gaya. The raids were conducted after a search warrant was issued by the court. During the raid, the team seized documents related to investments in banks, properties and jewellery. A case of disproportionate assets (DA) has been registered against the former mining inspector under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and the IPC.
EOU statement
According to the EOU, during the raid, documents of booking of two flats in Dhanbad, Jharkhand were recovered from his rented house in Arrah. Documents related to insurance policy, purchase of land in Madhubani and Dhanbad, two bond papers of LIC, documents of two vehicles (two wheeler and four wheeler), jewellery, bank account, cheque books of various banks and ATM were seized. Officials said that we are investigating all the documents seized during the raid.
