Three persons, including two medical college students, were killed in a road accident in Nellai.

Three persons, including two medical college students, were killed when a car and a two-wheeler collided near Retiarpatti on the Nellai-Madurai four-lane road. Three students of Nellai Government Medical College who were traveling on a bike were thrown when a tire of a car traveling from Nagercoil to Thoothukudi exploded, breaking the barrier in the middle of the four-lane road and colliding with an oncoming bike.

Gayatri and Brito Angel, both fourth year students, died on the spot. Shanmugasundar, who was driving the car that caused the accident, died on admission to the hospital. The death toll from the crash has tripled.

Another injured medical college student has been admitted to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. Police including Nellai Corporation Commissioner Suresh Kumar are investigating the incident. Nellai Municipal Traffic Investigation Police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation.
