This is an announcement that should relieve the 100,000 injured Eni customers. The Italian electricity supplier will pay 50 million euros to reimburse them, announced this Tuesday on RMC the Minister for Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

Summoned last Wednesday by the minister, the leaders of Eni France recognized erroneous invoices for customers who renewed their contracts in the second half of 2022, in particular because certain government protection measures had not been applied. For example, the State had set up in the fall of 2021 a “tariff shield” on energy to contain the bill of the French, from which the country must gradually emerge by the end of 2024.

Eni “will reimburse in the coming weeks 50 million euros to these 100,000 customers who have had overbilling problems”, indicated Agnès Pannier-Runacher, specifying that 34 million euros would be reimbursed this week. Injured customers “will pay in 2023 the same price as those who are today at the regulated rate at EDF”, she added.

Engie summoned for a different situation

The Minister for Energy Transition has also promised that she will “ensure” that energy suppliers do not take advantage of the increase in the price of electricity to increase their margins, assuring that “for the moment, we do not did not notice that”.

Asked about the case of Engie, another supplier summoned to her ministry last Wednesday, Agnès Pannier-Runacher indicated that it was “a different situation” and that she had asked the company “that we verify that there is no anomaly” and “that we verify that customers have been informed” of the increase in their electricity bill.
