Skarsgård says the role was extremely demanding, both physically and mentally:
– To be able to use the voice we had worked so hard with, there was a whole routine every morning. Not just every morning, but between every take. It was a whole routine I built to access the voice, he says.
The actor had to go through an extensive makeup process every day to transform into the terrifying vampire. Sometimes it took up to six hours.
– It was very uncomfortable. I got warm and sticky – and it itched, Skarsgård recalls.
Lily-Rose Depp (25) and Nicholas Hoult (34) play the lead roles as Ellen and Thomas Hutter in the film. Depp describes the experience of meeting Skarsgård in full Nosferatu costume as frightening:
– he was genuinely terrifying to look at, Depp says.
“Nosferatu” is a remake of F.W. Murnau’s silent film from 1922, which was itself an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.”
The reimagining of Nosferatu is described by Filmweb as a gothic tale about a young woman’s obsession with the terrifying vampire that haunts her.
