Billie Eilish Clarifies Comments About Her Sexuality

Billie Eilish recently made headlines after comments she made in a Variety cover story were perceived as a coming out story. In the interview, Eilish mentioned that she is attracted to women and loves them as people, but she did not anticipate that it would be seen as a coming out moment.

“I didn’t, but I kinda thought, wasn’t it obvious?” Eilish said at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch, where she and her brother Finneas were being honored with the film song of the year award for their “Barbie” soundtrack tune “What Was I Made For?” on Saturday (Dec. 2). “I didn’t realize people didn’t know.”

Eilish has only been in public relationships with men, most recently with The Neighbourhood’s Jesse Rutherford before their breakup in May. She also expressed her casual attitude towards the concept of coming out, saying, “I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, why can’t we just exist? I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it. Whoops.”

Despite the unexpected attention on her sexuality, Eilish is cool with it. “It’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know, so it’s cool that they know,” the singer added. “But ooh, I’m nervous talking about it.”

Eilish will soon be seen as the musical guest on the Kate McKinnon-hosted Dec. 16 episode of SNL, and she confirmed her support for the LGBTQ+ community saying, “I am for the girls… I’m still scared of ’em, but I think they’re pretty.”

Eilish’s nonchalant attitude towards the issue and her support for the LGBTQ+ community has been well-received by her fans. Watch the interview clip via Variety for more insights into Billie Eilish’s perspective on the issue.
