The 555-carat black diamond, known as “The Enigma”, is believed to have formed billions of years ago when a meteorite or asteroid struck Earth.

The world’s largest cut diamond was auctioned in London last Wednesday for Rs 80 crore.

The auction house commented on this,

“This particular type of black diamond may have originated from meteorite impacts or supernatural eruptions that produced natural chemical vapor deposits.

Enigma is not a gem-quality diamond, and carbonados is not commonly used in jewelry or sold at auction, but has only recently become popular.

They are commonly used for drilling due to their extraordinary hardness.

In Hong Kong last year, the Key 10138 diamond was sold for Rs 235 crore, which was purchased using crypto-currency.
