Billy Graham is dead. The former wrestling “superstar” died at the age of 79. He was considered a mentor to the likes of Hulk Hogan.

Billy Graham, also known by his nickname “Superstar”, was considered one of the first major wrestling stars and had a significant impact on the sport. Graham passed away on Wednesday at the age of 79. That reports the US portal “TMZ Sports” citing a statement from his family. Accordingly, all life-sustaining measures had previously been discontinued. According to media reports, he finally died of kidney failure. His wife and daughter were by his side.

His current wife Valerie announced on Monday that the former top athlete had been in intensive care for three weeks due to various health problems. At the beginning of the week, the doctors advised her to end the life-sustaining measures. However, she would have resisted at first.

Billy Graham mentored Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair

Graham was a mentor to great wrestlers like Hulk Hogan (69) and Ric Flair (74) and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004. It had been known for a long time that his health was impaired. He is said to have suffered from heart failure and diabetes, among other things. In 2002 he received a liver transplant.

Graham was married twice and has two children from his first marriage. After his career as a wrestler, he also worked as a preacher and in 2006 he published his widely acclaimed autobiography “Tangled Ropes”.
