Pala: The dispute over the post of Pala Municipal Council president has affected the CPM-Kerala Congress M relationship in the region. Binu Pulikakandam, who was decided by the CPM for the post of president, had to be changed due to pressure from the Kerala Congress. After that, Binu came to the scene with an ad response that ‘now are the days of struggle’. After that, he came out with an open letter to Jose K Mani. It was also noticed that Binu arrived wearing a black dress during the presidential election.

Binu Pulikakandam’s letter is enumerating each and every thing. The letter begins by saying, Dear Jomon, There were lusts, but no lust. Read the full letter.

Dear Jomon,

“There were passions but no passions.”

Friends and well-wishers are constantly calling with words of comfort. Those who believed more firmly than me that I would reach the post of President of the Pala Municipal Corporation… As a public servant I expected the prestigious post of Municipal Corporation President… The enthusiastic hammer and sickle of any comrade put the Communist Party of India Marxist on the electoral stage with a crisis, quarreled with the party, lamented. I didn’t want to bargain or get a position…and never will.

I still remember the day I met you for the first time. As part of the election campaign activities of your father, Pala’s adored leader KM Mani sir, you were introduced to your party member Thomas Antony when he was pasting posters on the walls of the Tekkekkara Vijayodayam Reading Room, wearing pants and a shirt and driving himself in a Maruti 800 car to the Cathedral Church. That day I wondered why Manisar, a practical politician in Kerala politics, is delaying his son’s political entry? Can the son lose interest? Later, when that political entry took place amid many controversies and you became a candidate, I am the person who worked for your success as a UDF worker and grieved over your failure.

My father, who was the Vice President of Kerala Congress Pala Constituency for 23 years, was more saddened by your defeat than me. Even when the political Chanakya named Mani Sar was ruling Pala, he could not enter the area south of Pala. There, even the business license of the ration shop, which was our livelihood, was in crisis because my father had given away the building he owned for the Kerala Congress party office for free.

Manisar gave me the affection of a dear colleague’s son and the respect of a young public servant, while supporting from the same slum and fighting from another slum. Let me recall at this juncture that his politics was never one of vengeance, grudge, hatred or intolerance.

I am writing this open letter to you on the day that I lost the recognition that I, my movement and thousands of comrades in the party thought would come naturally to me – the position of municipal chairperson, under the politics of intolerance. The day when I was denied the chance to become the first CPI(M) Chairman in the 75-year history of the Pala Municipal Corporation, who had won the hammer and sickle star symbol, the day when the hearts of thousands of party comrades who dreamed of flying the red flag in the Municipal Corporation were denied. … January 19, 2023… will go down as “a black day in the political history of Pala”.

As the Kottayam district secretary of the CPI, the second party in our front, V.B.B. said, it is not right for the constituent parties to interfere in the matter of deciding the candidate in the internal affairs of a party in the front. It is reminded that many party comrades have said this. Many comrades are also raising the question that after one year, your party will get the position of chairman again, and do we have the right to say who should be your chairman then?

When the next assembly election comes (if you are still in this front), should Jose Tom, who lost to Mani C Capan by just 2543 votes, or Roshi Augustine, who is from Pala and is quite popular, or Angu, who lost in the last general election by 15378 votes, should contest for Kerala Congress as the candidate of the Left Front? I am also asking on this occasion whether you will allow me the freedom to express my opinion.

Denial of endorsements on grounds of political/personal enmity after being elected by the people is more painful than the loss of political fortunes due to rejection by the people in elections. From this day forward I am devoting a portion of my time to public work to secure in the future the political fortunes which you have lost because of the people’s rejection. There will be no lust for lost power, no compromises for the people, and tomorrow my public life will be the same.

Struggles are the hallmark of the CPI(M) party.. It is holding fast and marching forward.. There will be no compromise as long as there are red flag comrades and the great political movement CPI(I)M without the adornment of positions of power.

It was only after coming under the shadow of the great political movement CPI(I)M that I understood the discipline and framework required for workers in political movements. Holding on to those convictions and responsibilities, the red flag is the only red flag. .. That’s why I said at first that there was desire but when it was lost, there was no desire…

In response to those who are fed up with the party and front and want me to stay away from the public arena out of a sense of loss, let me say that I will continue to be in the forefront for the party, for the people and for their welfare.

The failure of a public servant begins when he wants to take over positions of power that are lost for the sake of positions by compromising positions. Thus, when the positions are watered down, lying, and the desire is realized through the politics of grudge and revenge….. In the people’s court, the vendettas of the losers… “Shadow wars…” are shadow wars of those who are not connected to reality, unable to grasp the public sentiment, and unable to gain public trust…. Wars can never defeat anyone. People’s rejection is waiting for them tomorrow…. When they cannot accept it, they have to make someone as a scapegoat for self-fulfillment…. If I am today, someone else will be tomorrow…. But the public mind cannot be conquered by such sacrifices.

As an active member of the party, I have fulfilled my responsibility to the people and remained loyal to them, and I will continue to walk with my head held high as a municipal councilor for the last two decades. This one setback which some people are celebrating now….. but which does not touch me at all is not weakness but commitment to my movement and my comrades.

I am encouraged by my brave comrades and the general community of Pala who have not given up on me in this political tussle. “Black is not only a color, it is not only a sign of protest, but also of surrender, of some remembrance.” This opium has great relevance for the upcoming council period and political activity with you

Regards,
Adv. Binu Pulikakandam.

Pala,
19/01/2023

The response of the CPM leadership was that the candidate for the post of president was decided unanimously. With Binu Pulikakandam’s response and letter coming out, the CPM leadership is also on the defensive on this issue. Elected as the new chairperson is Josin Bino who won as a leftist independent.
