by time news

An investment of 5.8 million euros for the Piedmontese project Aibibank (acronym for Bio-Banking for Artificial Intelligence) which will involve some of the most important hospitals in the area, co-financed for 2.5 million by the Piedmont Region and for the rest by partner companies and research institutions.

The goal is to create in 24 months a Big Data analysis platform and innovative solutions for the treatment of cancer pathologies, as part of an Open Innovation and Open Science project in line with the creation of the new Health Park. A database that will allow the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning techniques, applied to the development of innovative tools to support doctors, for the prevention of the two most relevant cancer diseases: breast and prostate , two of the most frequently diagnosed malignancies in the female and male population in Italy.

“The Aibibank project is a virtuous example of collaborative innovation that sees the contribution of start-ups, medium-sized enterprises, large enterprises and public institutions”, underlines Giovanni La Valle, General Manager of Città della Salute e della Scienza. “A system project in the field of health, in line with the new Health Park and with the candidacy of Turin as the Capital of AI”.

Therefore, Artificial Intelligence applied to precision medicine to give life to a technological and regulatory infrastructure, called DataLake in IT jargon, capable of collecting and organizing medical images and clinical data in a constant and perpetual way. The initiative, coordinated by Health Triage, the Turin start-up leader and promoter of the project, received the support of the Piedmont Region, through the POR FESR 2014/2020 funds, Action I.1b.22 Bando Pi.Te.F. – “Supply Chain” technological platform. Furthermore, it will see the involvement of private partners and hospitals, such as Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, Medas, Lattanzio KIBS, AOU City of Health and Science of Turin (Scientific Responsible of the project Dr. Antonio Scarmozzino), Piedmont Foundation for the Oncology of Candiolo – FPO – IRCCS (Scientific Coordinator of the project Prof. Daniele Regge).
