jpnn.com – General Chair of the Senior Secondary Forestry School Alumni Family Association (IKA SKMA) Dr Irwan said optimizing state income from the forestry sector must be carried out to support national development.
In this case, the holder of a doctorate from Mulawarman University focuses on utilizing products from biodiversity in Indonesian forests.
“If so far timber oriented has been the focus of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s strengths, then in the future the use of derivative products from Indonesia’s rich biodiversity must be a priority,” said Irwan in Jakarta, Tuesday (8/10/2024).
The Democrat Party politician also reminded that biodiversity consists of genetic diversity, types and ecosystems.
These three levels illustrate that biodiversity starts from the smallest level, where within a species, from what is visible to the eye to microscopic microorganisms.
Irwan said that in the small world, an inch of land in the forest is a wilderness of genetic diversity, even down to the species level.
“Today, with micro and even nano technology, a sample from the forest can contain potentially hundreds or even thousands of types of microbes that are beneficial to humans,” he said.
According to Irwan, scientific discoveries of biodiversity at the micro-organism level reveal opportunities for utilizing genetic resources that support the development of bioprospecting for germplasm reserves from forest areas.
