The operation to control elements of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo continues in Kisangani, headquarters of the 3rd defense zone and the 31st military region. The VPM, Minister of National Defense and Veterans Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo made this known during the 104th meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday July 14, 2023.
This operation is implemented by the General Inspectorate with a view to controlling the FARDC workforce with a view to its reorganization.
“The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs informed the Council of the following information: the continuation of biometric control in the 3rd Defense Zone: to date, this control tends to demonstrate the disparity between the declared workforce and those actually operational. The report will be based on the consolidation of the data obtained and the consideration of latecomers as well as justified absentees during the passage” says the minutes of the meeting.
And to continue:
“This control aims to control the workforce; the sending to the Military Justice of the files of the suppliers suspected of embezzlement following an investigation launched under his direction in order to discourage bad practices and straighten the management of supplies. Indeed, the latter were unable to provide the services in proportion to the amounts collected”.
This operation is carried out on the instruction of the high hierarchy of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, namely the Supreme Commander. It comes after several reforms already initiated with a view to increasing the power of the FARDC. These are the law on military programming, the adoption of the national defense policy and so many others.
The DRC, which has been facing growing insecurity in its eastern part for nearly 30 years, wants to reorganize its defense and security system in order to better ensure the defense of the integrity of its territory against its neighbours.
