The President of the United States, Joe Biden, had a common type of skin cancer. The confirmation came through a biopsy from a lesion removed from the US president’s chest last month. It was a basal carcinoma. Kevin O’Connor, White House physician and professional assisting Biden released a letter to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, where he states that the diagnosis was expected and that “all cancerous tissue was successfully removed and the margins were free of any residual skin cancer cells,” without the need for additional treatments. For now, Biden will remain under “dermatological surveillance” and the area where the tissue with the cancerous lesion was removed has recovered satisfactorily. “Basal cell carcinoma lesions do not tend to ‘spread’ or metastasize, as some more serious skin cancers, such as melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma, tend to do,” explained O’Connor. Initially, the lesion removed from the president of the USA took place in February and the White House had announced that it would need a few days to test the fabric. Other examinations of the head, ears, eyes, nose and throat were normal. Deemed senile, confused or unfit for office by many Republicans, neurological tests found no evidence of stroke, multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. Currently, Biden is 80 years old and the number will increase on the 20th of November.
