Tokyo: Spread of bird flu has created a crisis in Japan. Thousands of infected birds were killed. Egg prices soared to record highs. Meanwhile, one of the biggest problems Japan is facing right now is not having enough space to hide dead chickens and the like. About 17 million birds were killed across the country due to bird flu. Proper disposal of dead bird carcasses is essential to prevent spread and contamination. But local administrations and farmers complain that they are facing severe shortage of land for this. In Japan, many major companies have stopped selling or raised prices of chicken and egg products. In 16 of the 26 provinces, there is not enough space to hide the birds. Bird flu was reported in all 26 prefectures of Japan.
