On Friday of last week in Kaunas, at the Lithuanian local and inbound tourism awards held for the first time, the most successful 2022. the Birštonas pedestrian and bicycle viaduct was selected as a project that opened up new communication opportunities in the regions. The winner was chosen by a commission consisting of tourism professionals and the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Lithuania.

“It’s extremely gratifying to be nominated for and win the first-ever awards. In the Birštonas resort, we prioritize safe traffic, pedestrians, bicycles, and ecological transport. This achievement of the new viaduct connecting the two parts of the city of Birštonas is the result of our consistent work. Thank you for the evaluation”, said Edvardas Citvaras, vice mayor of Birštonas municipality, while accepting the award.

Other nominees were also proposed for this nomination: the longest pedestrian bridge in Lithuania in Biržai (525 m), which connects the city center and Astravas Manor; Palanga-Sventoji bicycle path; Lazdija district free public transport operating in the territory of the municipality. The winners of the nominations were chosen by the Commission of Tourism Professionals and the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Lithuania Mindaugas Tarnauskas based on the submitted candidacies of travelers, and commemorative statuettes were presented to the winners.
