Bitcoin drops below $20,000

by time news

DThe cryptocurrency Bitcoin slipped back below the $20,000 mark over the weekend. At $19,873, the oldest and most important cyber currency was around three percent weaker on Sunday than the day before. The recent uptrend that took it above $24,000 in mid-August has ended.

The price had already fallen significantly on Friday. Traders had referred above all to the statement by the head of the American central bank, Jerome Powell, that they did not expect interest rate hikes to end quickly. This had led to noticeable price losses on Wall Street, with the major American stock indices falling by up to 3.9 percent.

At the beginning of November, a bitcoin cost more than $66,000, and at the end of March it was around $47,000. However, those who got in early and did not sell their holdings can still look forward to strong growth: at the beginning of 2019, a bitcoin cost less than $3,500, at the beginning of 2016 less than $400 and at the end of 2011 only around three dollars.
