Bitcoin Spot ETFs Post $82 Million Outflow Led By BlackRock And Fidelity

U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded a net outflow of $82.3893 million on October 16, 2026, led by redemptions from BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC, as digital asset investment products navigate a broader market cooldown following weeks of volatile capital flows.

The latest single-day figures compiled from SoSoValue trackers show that institutional demand recorded a total net outflow of $82.3893 million on October 16, 2026. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust registered the largest single-day withdrawal among the funds at $71.78 million, while Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund followed with a net outflow of $10.61 million.

Those redemptions contrast sharply with earlier periods of heavy accumulation. Just weeks prior, U.S. spot Bitcoin funds received about $2.6 billion in capital inflows over a three-week stretch ending October 2, 2026. Yet the mood has since shifted as broader macroeconomic pressures and shifting interest rate expectations buffet digital assets.

Fidelity and BlackRock Redemptions Drive October 16 Outflows

The mechanics of the October 16 downturn highlight how quickly institutional sentiment can reverse across regulated investment vehicles. BlackRock’s IBIT saw its total historical net inflow reach $65.568 billion despite the daily setback, while Fidelity’s FBTC brought its cumulative historical intake to $10.455 billion.

Data compiled across multiple reporting desks reveals a turbulent weekly cycle. Earlier in the week, Farside Investors tables recorded $610.7 million in net outflows across U.S. crypto ETFs between October 12 and October 16, down from $1.29 billion the previous week. Ethereum funds absorbed a heavier blow than Bitcoin products over that five-day window, shedding $320.1 million compared to $228.4 million in Bitcoin withdrawals.

Farside Investors figures also tracked a wider withdrawal across U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs on October 14, which registered USD 261.4 million in net outflows, while Ethereum products registered USD 129.5 million. Together, those figures amounted to USD 390.9 million in net withdrawals during that single session. Specific product breakdowns from that day showed Fidelity’s FBTC registering USD 152.7 million in outflows, while BlackRock’s IBIT recorded USD 110.9 million. Bitwise’s BITB attracted USD 2.2 million, partly offsetting those redemptions.

Flow data compiled from SoSoValue and other trackers showed that this selling wave was highly concentrated in the middle of the week, with redemptions of about $487 million on October 7 followed by another $244 million on October 8. Among individual issuers during that October 5–9 period, the FBTC fund managed by Fidelity recorded close to $380 million of net redemptions, while ARK & 21Shares’ ARKB ETF saw around $207 million in outflows.

Additional daily records showed that on October 7 specifically, Bitcoin funds had suffered $484.9 million in withdrawals. For the entire month of October through mid-month tracking, net flows through Thursday add up to an outflow of $539.8 million.

Derivatives Pressures and Price Range Stability

Behind the shifting ETF flows, Bitcoin’s spot price has hovered within a defined band. On Friday morning, Bitcoin traded at $81,963 (or €72,984).

Derivatives markets reflect similar caution. Trading firm Wintermute reported that cryptocurrency markets lacked the robust capital-flow support seen in traditional equities, where third-quarter S&P 500 earnings growth estimates approached 29% year over year. In an assessment of broader conditions, Wintermute stated that a sustained recovery would require long-term Treasury yields to stabilize and spot ETF flows to return to positive territory. The firm noted it would shift to a defensive posture if the U.S. 30-year Treasury yield climbs past the 5.64% threshold marked on September 30, or if Bitcoin continually fails to surmount the $82,500 mark.

Total Assets Under Management and Cumulative Inflows

Despite the October outflows, the broader infrastructure of spot exchange-traded funds remains substantial. As of October 16, 2026, the total net asset value of spot Bitcoin ETFs stood at $104.29 billion, representing an ETF net asset ratio of 6.35% relative to Bitcoin’s overall market capitalization. Cumulative net inflows since inception reached $56.878 billion.

Regional portfolio managers continue to evaluate these vehicles as structural additions to diversified mandates. In markets across various regions, the rise of U.S. spot ETFs has allowed regulated institutional players to offer exposure aligned with internal compliance frameworks, turning daily fund flows into a standalone variable for professional trading desks.

Meanwhile, institutional interest is also navigating regulatory and structural developments outside the ETF sphere. MSCI’s revised rules for non-operating companies could potentially exclude firms with significant digital asset holdings from its global equity indexes, with affected companies expected to be announced on November 11, 2026. For investors in Germany assessing direct positions, current tax regulations treat profits realized within a twelve-month period as miscellaneous income subject to individual tax brackets, featuring an annual tax-free allowance of €1,000 per calendar year above which the entire profit becomes taxable.
