BJP Launches Nationwide Campaign to Counter India Bloc Protests

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is launching a nationwide campaign titled Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) starting October 31, 2026. The protest aims to counter the India Bloc’s ongoing demonstrations against the Election Commission of India and Chief Election Gyanesh Kumar regarding alleged irregularities in voter list revisions.

BJP Plans Counter-Demonstrations Across West Bengal

Following the India Bloc’s protests in New Delhi, the West Bengal unit of the BJP has announced a series of counter-demonstrations across the state. The campaign, which focuses on the Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy slogan, is scheduled to run from October 31 through November 5, 2026. A second phase of the movement is planned to resume after the Diwali festivities, beginning November 11. BJP state vice-president Prabal Raha noted that the party plans to hold marches in 800 locations, with a goal of drawing at least 10,000 people to each event.

The state-level program includes five major foot marches and youth rallies. A centerpiece of this initiative is a massive rally in Kolkata on November 2, 2026, which is expected to draw participation from top-tier party leadership. BJP national president Nitin Nabin is scheduled to lead the march from College Street to Dharmatala. Joining him will be key state leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari and state president Samik Bhattacharya. Beyond Kolkata, the BJP has scheduled marches in Howrah and Siliguri on November 3, Krishnanagar on November 4, and Durgapur on November 5.

The Conflict Over Voter List Revisions

The political standoff centers on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process conducted by the Election Commission. Opposition parties, including the Congress-led India Bloc, have accused the Commission of widespread irregularities, claiming that millions of voters have been improperly removed from electoral rolls. They are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the SIR process.

BJP leaders have dismissed these allegations as false statements designed to incite unrest. According to Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, the figures cited by the opposition regarding voter deletions are misleading. They (Congress) are trying to create anarchy in the state and the country, Rao said, as reported by PTI. He explained that the deletions include individuals categorized as absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicate (ASDD).

National Leaders Guide BJP Poll Preparations

The visits of national party leaders are seen as essential for the BJP’s organizational strategy, particularly with upcoming municipal elections in Kolkata and Howrah. During his visit, Nabin is expected to hold meetings with state leaders to discuss candidate selection and election tactics. Central home minister Amit Shah is also slated to visit the state after the Kali Puja celebrations to further guide the party’s poll preparations. BJP youth wing state president and Amta MLA Amit Samant confirmed that the youth wing will also host youth gatherings starting November 2 in Bardhaman and Kharagpur, followed by Kolkata, Malda, and Kalyani.

While the BJP prepares for its rallies, the India Bloc maintains its push for a Save Vote, Save Country movement. Rahul Gandhi has called on citizens to join their November 1 rally at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, describing the event as a struggle to protect the Constitution. Meanwhile, the movement continues to draw diverse participants, including families from Punjab who, according to reports, continue to seek justice for past grievances. The BJP maintains that its nationwide mobilization is necessary to protect the democratic process against what it characterizes as opposition-led anarchy.
