BJP-Nagaland, Meghalaya chief ministers take oath in coalition government

Kohima/ Shillong: Naibyu Rio was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland and Conrad Sangma as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya yesterday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in both the ceremonies.

Assembly elections were held in the north-eastern states of Tripura on February 16, and in Meghalaya and Nagaland on February 27. The results of the 3 state elections were published on the 2nd.

Out of 60 constituencies in Nagaland, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) won 25 and its ally BJP won 12 seats. The BJP alliance won an absolute majority with 31 MLAs needed to form the government.

In this case, the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP coalition government was held at the cultural center in the capital Kohima yesterday. Senior NTPP leader Neibu Rio (72) was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland for the 5th term. Governor L. Ganesan administered the oath of office to him.

NTPP senior leader Zeliang and BJP senior leader Yantanko Paden took charge as Deputy Chief Ministers. 5 people from NTPP party and 4 people from BJP were sworn in as ministers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Natta, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Viswa Sharma and others participated in the swearing-in ceremony.

No Opposition: The non-aligned Nationalist Congress, Rashtriya Lok Dal (Ram Vilas), Republican Party of India (Adwale) and United Janata Dal have also supported the ruling BJP alliance, so there is no opposition in Nagaland.

Inauguration in Shillong: Out of 59 constituencies in Meghalaya, National People’s Party won 26 seats, United Democratic Party 11 seats and BJP 2 seats. As neither party got a majority, these parties re-joined after the elections. 45 MLAs supported National People’s Party leader Conrad Sangma.

In this case, the swearing-in ceremony was held yesterday at the Governor’s House in the capital Shillong. Conrad Sangma (46) took office as Chief Minister for the 2nd time. He was administered the oath of office by Governor Bahu Chauhan. National People’s Party’s Prestone and Siniya Balang were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Natta, Sikkim Chief Minister Tamang, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soran and others participated in the ceremony.

Celebrations in Tripura today: Out of 60 constituencies in Tripura, the ruling BJP has retained power by winning 32. Manik Saha will be sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time in a ceremony in the capital Agartala today. Prime Minister Modi will participate in this function.
