Madurai: Pongal festival is to be celebrated in Madurai on behalf of BJP. The BJP has announced that Prime Minister Modi will be in Madurai on January 12 to attend the Pongal celebrations to be held under the name Modi Pongal.

Pongal, a traditional festival of the Tamils, is celebrated for 4 days every year. Jallikattu competitions will be held for three days in Madurai district. Tourists from abroad also visit this Pongal festival.

BJP state president Annamalai has said that Modi Pongal will be celebrated on the 12th on behalf of the Tamil Nadu BJP on the occasion of the Tamil Thirunalam Pongal festival.

The Prime Minister of India Modi is scheduled to attend the function. It has been reported that a committee has been set up on behalf of the BJP to coordinate and better organize the event. It is noteworthy that Rahul Gandhi participated in the Pongal festival celebrated on behalf of the Congress party in Madurai last year.
