“Black Raven” was the theme of the choreography with which Evangelia Platanioti became world champion in artistic swimming, making history.
The choreography of Evangelia Plataniotis had the highest degree of difficulty (38.9000) of those performed by the gymnasts who competed in the final of the technical solo artistic swimming, at the World Aquatic Championships held in Doha.
Collecting 272.9633 points – surpassing the “harvest” of the qualifier in which she was again first – the 30-year-old won the gold medal, achieving the greatest success of Greek artistic swimming.
Evangelia Platanioti was the last athlete to compete in the final. When her score was announced and she realized she had just been crowned world champion, the 30-year-old burst into tears.
Evangelia Plataniotis: It is something magical, something unique
In her first statements after winning the gold medal, Evangelia Plataniotis did not hide that she was very emotional.
«Words cannot describe the feeling, it’s something magical, it’s something unique“, pointed out. The 30-year-old explained that last year she intended to retire from solo music. But the fact that she didn’t get on the podium in 2023 made her stubborn.
“Unfortunately, I was very poorly prepared. I knew my potential for it and I was stubborn and said “I will continue until Doha”“, she explained and said a “huge” thank you to her four coaches who “were my strength to keep going”.
The awarding of the gold medal to Evangelia Plataniotis
The gold medal won by Evangelia Plataniotis is the fifth for the Greek colors in the history of the World Athletics Championships.
As for the 30-year-old, this is the third time she is on the podium of the event, as in 2022 in Budapest she won two bronze medals.
