It is based on <i>Journey to the West</i>, a 16th-century novel, and belongs to the Souls genre, a category known for its high complexity levels and extensively developed story. The Monkey King, Sun Wukong, the main character, is the only avatar controlled by the player and engages in battles against the creatures of the land.</p><p class="font--secondary">The game's soundtrack is the same as the series <i>Journey to the West</i> (1986), and since 2020, Game Science has been publishing information. On August 20 of that year, they announced a 13-minute video on YouTube that garnered over two million views within just 24 hours. The following year, the developers showcased the title using the Unreal Engine 5, the most advanced graphics engine in the industry.</p><p class="font--secondary">Finally, on August 20, 2024, the video game was officially released on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 5 and on Steam, Epic Games, and other virtual delivery stores for PC. It now aims to approach three million daily players.</p><p class="font--secondary">A target that has only been surpassed by <i>PUBG: Battlegrounds</i>, a Steam giant that currently boasts 3.2 million simultaneous gamers and is one of the most practiced, followed, and viewed esports in the world.
