Jennie of group Blackpink, who was embroiled in an indoor smoking controversy, admitted in an interview with an American magazine that the incident was her fault.

On the 19th (local time), American magazine Harper’s Bazaar US released a pictorial and interview with Blackpink’s Jennie that was published in their October issue.

In the interview, the editor asked Jennie about the recent ‘indoor smoking controversy’, and Jennie said, “What can I do? If Korean people think[my behavior]was wrong, I have to make up for it.” She continued, “I understand why[the public]is upset. It’s a cultural and historical thing.”

A vlog video posted on Jennie’s YouTube channel, ‘A Moment in Capri with Jennie’, in July showed Jennie getting her makeup done in an indoor waiting room overseas. In the video, Jennie is seen smoking an e-cigarette and exhaling the smoke in front of a staff member who is applying her makeup nearby, ignoring them. The video has since been deleted.

Afterwards, Jennie was criticized for smoking indoors and blowing cigarette smoke into the faces of staff without caring about them, and the controversy grew as the information became widely known through online communities.

In response, OA Entertainment, Jennie’s agency at the time, stated to News 1, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content released on the 2nd.” They continued, “Jennie is also reflecting on the fact that she smoked indoors and the harm she caused to other staff members, and she has also directly contacted the staff members who were there at the time and apologized.” They then apologized, saying, “We would like to apologize to the fans who must have felt disappointed, and we will repay you with a more mature and better image in the future.”
