K-pop icon BLACKPINK has solidified their status by adding another music video to the 2 billion-view band list.

According to YG Entertainment on the 31st, BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ music video surpassed 2 billion views on YouTube at around 7:44 AM that day. This achievement was made approximately 5 years and 5 months after its release on April 5, 2019.

With this, BLACKPINK has become the first K-pop artist to have two music videos with over 2 billion views out of a total of 46 videos with over 100 million views. Their other mega hit music video, “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” which previously achieved the same number of views, has now surpassed 2.2 billion views.

The ‘Kill This Love’ music video has drawn explosive responses from music fans around the world with its dynamic performance and sophisticated visuals. The addictive choreography, including the movements that resemble shooting a rifle, received favorable reviews and became the only K-pop song to make it into the ‘Top 10 Most-Watched Music Videos Worldwide in 2019’.

The song also left a big mark on various global charts. ‘Kill This Love’, which features strong lead brass and magnificent drum sounds, ranked 41st and 24th on Billboard’s main charts, Hot 100 and Billboard 200, respectively, in its first week of release, breaking the record for the highest ranking for a K-pop girl group at the time.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s powerful influence on YouTube is still ongoing. Their official YouTube channel has over 94.7 million subscribers, the most among all male and female artists in the world, and their content has accumulated over 36.7 billion views.
