On this Monday, San Salvador had the most important celebration of the Augustinian feasts: the traditional “birth” of the Divine Savior of the World, an activity that commemorates the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor.
The festival, which attracts thousands of exiles every year, began with a solemn procession that started from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, on Rubén Darío Street, and went towards the Metropolitan Cathedral.
During the tour, the parishioners, who packed the cathedral, took part in a symbolic act that recreates the biblical scene of the Transfiguration. During the ceremony, the image of Jesus, which was first seen above the world, is hidden to reappear in brilliant white clothes, in an act which commemorates the moment, according to tradition, when Jesus was transformed into a being of light on Mount Tabor. The celebration ended with a great mass, which brought the community together in an act of faith and devotion.
