US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken approved today the US sale to Israel of various military equipment worth a total of more than $20 billion, Reuters reported.

The Pentagon explained that among the equipment there are tank shells, air-to-air missiles, F-15 fighter jets and M1148A1P2 tactical military machines, writes BTA.

Earlier today, Blinken postponed his trip to the Middle East because of tensions in the region.

The diplomat was due to travel to the Middle East once again as part of US efforts to advance ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Earlier today, Hamas fired two rockets aimed at Tel Aviv for the first time in months. And Israel launched new airstrikes on the enclave.

Iran, for its part, today rejected a call by three European countries to refrain from retaliatory attacks that could further escalate regional tensions, calling the demand “excessive”.

In a joint statement yesterday, the leaders of Britain, France and Germany urged Iran and its allies to refrain from retaliating against the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh last month in Tehran. Iran blames Israel for the assassination.
