The US State Department does not expect breakthroughs following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva, but would like to find out what the Kremlin has come to as a result of previous consultations, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in an interview with the German ZDF television channel.

“I do not expect any breakthrough,” he replied to the question of how he sees the best outcome of the upcoming meeting.

At the same time, he stressed that after three rounds of negotiations on security guarantees between Russia, the United States, NATO and the OSCE, all parties had the opportunity to reflect on the results of the meetings.

“And this is an important point, I think: to understand at what stage we are with Foreign Minister Lavrov, to see what conclusions Russia has drawn from these diplomatic contacts,” the Secretary of State said.
