Attention! For next week, traffic complications are expected on the country’s different roads due to possible demonstrations announced by members of the group Los 48 Cantones de Totonicapán.

According to a notification, spread on social networks, the blockades are expected from 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 2 and will be for an indefinite period. The group argues that the actions are to express “their concern and seek solutions for important issues that affect the democracy of our country.”

“Another of our requests is the resignation of Maria Consuelo Porras Argueta and José Rafael Curruchiche Cacul. We request that the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala clarify the approval of laws that threaten the health and well-being of Guatemalans,” the organization’s representatives added in the document.

The document signed by the Board of Directors of the 48 of Totonicapán does not specify the points of the demonstrations and blockades.

Other actions

A similar situation occurred on September 19, the actions were taken by the Peasant Development Committee (CODECA) group.

CODECA assured that its protest was to express its rejection of the legal actions after the second round of elections and to pressure the resignation of some authorities.

The organization accused of electricity theft, in which several of its followers have been prosecuted and sentenced, to the People’s Liberation Movement (MLP) party, a party that could not participate in the general elections with its presidential binomial.
