Interoperability is the missing foundation for AI in healthcare because without real-time, high-quality data, even the best models can’t mature.
Jose Macion, founder and CEO of GenOp Health, envisions a “healthcare internet” built on blockchain, enabling secure, real-time data exchange among hospitals, providers, and payers. He explained that blockchain can help track transactions, enhance security, and facilitate scalable data sharing as networks expand. Macion also detailed bootstrapping his first company without outside investment, building an early team through family connections, and how the COVID-19 work-from-home era helped him focus and ship.
Macion touched on the lack of a national patient identifier, his concept of an “artificially intelligent patient search engine” to correlate records across facilities using identifiers and demographics, and his view of the shift from generative AI to agentic AI.
