/ Police Club Coordinator Athir Al-Shuwaili reported on Tuesday that Zakho basketball team fans attacked police players and injured some of them, and the team is currently besieged inside the match hall.
Al-Shuwaili told Agency, “A match took place between the police team and its host, Zakho team, but it was stopped six minutes before the end of the regular time after Zakho fans entered the stadium and assaulted our players, which resulted in serious injuries.”
He added, “The police delegation is currently besieged and cannot leave the hall, as Zakho fans are surrounding the hall and threatening our team,” indicating that “the spark started after a provocative move by one of our professional players that angered the audience, but even if the player made a provocative move, this does not mean that such a dangerous transgression is happening to the guests.”
Al-Shuwaili stressed, “We have appealed to the security authorities to rescue the delegation and return it safely to Baghdad.”
It is noteworthy that the result of the match was in favour of the police, 69-61 points.
