(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 01 AUG – “The situation in Sardinian hospitals is dramatic”. The president of the regional Avis, Vincenzo Dore, does not mince his words, explaining: “We need blood to be able to guarantee surgical activity, to ensure transfusions for thalassemics who cannot live without it and to respond to emergencies/urgencies”.
The emergency situation affects all provinces.
Every year, the island needs 110 thousand transfusions but only 80 thousand are donated in Sardinia, the other 30 thousand blood bags are imported from other regions of Italy.
“During the summer period, the population in Sardinia increases considerably and at the same time blood donations undergo a physiological decline due to departures for vacations. Hospitals are struggling” Dore emphasizes. The appeal to donate is addressed to all people between the ages of 18 and 60, who weigh at least 50kg and are in good health.
Donating is simple, safe and fast: it only takes ten minutes to change the life of those in need.
“Donate before leaving or do it if you are here to enjoy the beauty of our land – is the cry of President Dore -. This is the most critical period for our Island, less is donated, the demand is greater and more road accidents are recorded. Any of us can find ourselves in need of blood”.
In particular, there is a need for blood group 0, the most lacking at the moment. You can donate blood in the Avis bloodmobiles present in the squares of Sardinia, in the Avis offices and in the transfusion centers of the hospitals.
