A source close to the case claimed that the incident took place in the 13th arrondissement of the French capital around 10:30 p.m. (local time, 23:30 Lithuanian time), and indicated that one officer suffered life-threatening injuries.

The source’s information to the AFP news agency was later confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Around midnight, Paris police chief Laurent Nunez arrived at the scene, accompanied by prosecutor Laure Beccuau.

L. Nunez told reporters that the suspect was arrested around 10 p.m. for “violent assault on a woman” with a retractable blade knife. “The officers intervened and brought him here (to the police station); while processing his data, he grabbed a gun” and “severely” injured two officers, he said.

Nunez added that both officers were immediately taken to the hospital, as was the suspect who was wounded by the return fire. “We are very worried about (the officers’) state of health,” he said, praising the “courage and quick response” of the commissariat staff.

According to L. Nunez, the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
