Thondamuthur: In Thondamuthur area, vegetable prices have gone up due to shortage of supply. In Thondamuthur area, 25,555 acres are being cultivated. Here, crops including tomatoes, small onions, turmeric, bananas, lentils and aubergines are widely grown. Due to the continuous rains for the last two months, the vegetable yield has been affected. Thus, the price is rising day by day. For the past one month, due to the shortage of supply, the price of tomatoes has been rising and then falling. In this situation, a tipper tomato weighing 14 kg was sold for Rs. 1,800 to Rs. 2,000 at the daily vegetable market in Puluvapatti yesterday. A kilo of eggplant was sold for 120 rupees, while betel, 80 rupees, beans, 80 rupees, radish, 60 rupees, cabbage, 50 rupees and onion, 30 rupees were sold yesterday.
