Blue Bolt secured her fourth successive Group 1 triumph and sixth win of the season at Newmarket on Saturday, pulling clear in the BetMGM Sun Chariot Stakes to edge trainer Andrew Balding ahead in the trainers’ championship before potential international targets in America.
The four-year-old daughter of Blue Point extended her unbeaten season to six races with a commanding performance on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Sent off as the 1-4 favourite under jockey Colin Keane, the Juddmonte-owned filly tracked the pace before taking control two furlongs from home in the £375,000 Group 1 feature, ultimately crossing the line two and three-quarter lengths clear of the field.
Newmarket Sun Chariot Stakes Victory and Title Race Shifts
Having already dominated her peers earlier this term in the Falmouth, Prix Rothschild, and Matron Stakes, Blue Bolt added another top-tier trophy to her record with a time of 1:34.60 on good-to-firm ground.

The £212,000 first-prize purse carried significant weight beyond the immediate trophy, nudging Andrew Balding ahead of Aidan O’Brien at the top of the trainers’ championship standings. For both Kingsclere handler Balding and owners Juddmonte, the victory marked a first triumph in the Rowley Mile contest.
“She’s just improved all year, it’s extraordinary and a great credit to the guys at home.”
Andrew Balding, Trainer
Colin Keane, securing his second Sun Chariot success in three years following his 2024 victory aboard Tamfana, noted that the filly ran fresher than usual while praising her remarkable physical progression.
“She’s gone from strength to strength and today she was probably fresher than she has been in the past. She did what she has been doing all year and when they start racking up the wins and go unbeaten you are worrying they are going to get beaten at some point and are hoping that day will never come.”

The €400,000 Arqana August graduate comes from an accomplished family as a half-sister to the stakes-winning and Group 2 German 1000 Guineas and Group 3 Prix Imprudence runner-up Sky Angel, as well as three-time stakes winner Sea Theme, the once-raced two-year-old filly Heureuse, and a yearling colt by Baaeed.
Breeders’ Cup Options at Keeneland
Connections are now weighing an international campaign for the brilliant filly, with this month’s Breeders’ Cup meeting at Keeneland emerging as a primary objective.
Instead, a trip to America offers distinct divisional choices.
“I think going up in trip (in America) would certainly suit her well, but that is not my decision and it’s a conversation we need to have with the Juddmonte team.”
Andrew Balding, Trainer
“If she was to stay in training she would have the whole of next year to take on the boys so we will have to see.”
