“We have no common destiny with France.” Ten days after Emmanuel Macron proposed “autonomy in the Republic” to Corsica, the FLNC claims responsibility for around twenty explosions which hit the island on the night of October 8 to 9.

There is talk of a new “blue night”, even if no serious injuries have been recorded. The Ajaccio prosecutor indicated “ten attacks” in Corde-du-Sud; a dozen others were counted in Haute-Corse. In total, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) opened an investigation into 22 explosions, which mainly affected homes and/or second homes. They were claimed Monday noon by the Corsican National Liberation Front (FLNC).

In a press release to the regional daily Corse-Matin, the armed organization wrote succinctly: “We have no common destiny with France. Let us claim the series of actions of the night of October 8 to 9, 2023”. Before signing: “A Francia Fora” (“France outside”).

A series of attacks which occurred around ten days later the arrival of the President of the Republic. He had proposed to Corsica “autonomy in the Republic”, warning that this “historic moment” will not take place “without” or “against” the French State. A moment that he himself described as “historic”, which the island’s independence politicians had received with caution.

At the beginning of August, the FLNC called for the creation of a “patriotic resistance platform”, because “no agreement between Corsica and France can be described as historic as long as it does not ratify the recognition of the rights of the Corsican people on their land”.

This year, the Pnat has already indicated that it has opened 50 investigations “in connection with arson or acts of destruction” in Corsica. It was 22 in 2022, three in 2021 and four in 2020.
