BMW i5 Touring – the one you want

by time news

IN NORWAY: The BMW i5 Touring has been in Norway for a long time to take beautiful press photos of it. Here represented with the rear-wheel drive eDrive40.

Now this has become the car many people want.

The BMW 5-series Touring was launched in 1991 and has been incredibly popular in Norway, for those who have been able to afford one.

Now it comes in the sixth generation, and it comes in all types of powertrains, petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and of course electric motor.

Swearing

We have already tested the sedan, which nobody would really want if there was a station wagon, i.e. the Touring – which is coming now.

The only time we’ve seen the sedan get a boost in sales was when it became available as a plug-in hybrid, while the Touring was not.

TRADITIONAL: Many of us were happy with a more traditional look when the i5 arrived. The station wagon is no exception.

Now, however, it is electricity that applies here at home, and this issue has become really difficult.

The car now measures 5.06 metres, ten cm larger than the outgoing model. Even the height and width have increased.

The size should especially be an advantage for the rear seat passengers. Feel free to check out the video where we test it:

CHECK OUT: In the video you can see, among other things, how much space there is in the back seat.

The trunk has also become larger. Now you get 570 liters under the cover, and 1,700 liters up to the roof with the seats folded down.

And of course you have a three-part rear seat.

You can pull between 1.5 and 2 tonnes on the hook, depending on the model.

BIGGER: BMW claims that three adults sit comfortably in the back, but the video above may show otherwise. Among other things, BMW still has a powerful cardan tunnel to take into account.

Sensible alternative

The base model for electric drive will be the rear-wheel drive i5 eDrive40 Touring.

It has a 230 kW (340 hp) electric motor under the boot.

The car gets a WLTP range of between 445-506 km, depending on equipment.

0-100 is done in 6.1 seconds. Read the test of the sedan version in the link below.

Close to perfection – at a nice starting price

And until now, you have had to buy the top model M60 xDrive to get four-wheel drive. It still has the same top power in Touring. That is, 442 kW (601 hp). Here, 0-100 goes away in 3.9 seconds

This will be the dream car for many. It gets a WLTP range of between 483-560 hp, depending on equipment. Read the test of the sedan version below.

Grom – but more expensive than the fossil varieties

Later this year, the “Norwegian car” will arrive. It will be named the i5 xDrive40 Touring. That is, a four-wheel-drive variant where the number 40 indicates approximately the same effect as the rear-wheel drive.

Then you will be able to get four-wheel drive for a somewhat more reasonable price. No data has yet been published on this.

YES: Large opening, low loading threshold, three-part rear seat back, incredibly easy to load, square luggage compartment and load net for both folded up and folded down luggage compartment. The Germans can do this.

Charging as before

Technical data are as before.

That means charging power up to 205 kW at fast chargers and 22 kW at home.

Fortunately, you now also have the option of preheating the battery before you come in to charge. The car also has the option of Plug&Charge, which means you don’t have to use an app, chip or card.
