BMW Unveils “Vision Neue Klasse” Electric Concept Car, Marking a New Era for the Company

Munich, Germany – German automaker BMW has revealed its highly anticipated electric concept car, the “Vision Neue Klasse.” With this new design, BMW aims to usher in a new era for the company as it prepares for the production of its next generation of electric vehicles.

The Vision Neue Klasse showcases a platform that will serve as the foundation for BMW’s upcoming electric vehicle lineup. The first electric vehicles based on this new architecture are scheduled to enter production in 2025. The company believes that this new line-up of electric vehicles, along with advanced battery cells, will improve both the charging speed and range of the Neue Klasse platform by up to 30%. Additionally, BMW expects overall vehicle efficiency to increase by up to 25%.

BMW CEO Oliver Zipse expressed the significance of the Vision Neue Klasse, stating, “With the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, we put every innovative force that BMW has on the electric side, on the digital side, and, of course, that car will also be prepared for the industry of circularity.” Zipse emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability as they prepare for the future.

The Vision Neue Klasse is set to make its public debut at the IAA motor show in Munich, which is also BMW’s headquarters. The IAA show is one of the largest mobility trade fairs in the world. Frank Weber, member of BMW’s Board of Management responsible for development, hailed the Neue Klasse range as a “major technological leap” for the company.

Zipse projected that battery electric vehicles will account for 15% of BMW’s worldwide sales by the end of 2023. He also expressed confidence in the face of competition from Chinese electric vehicle giants, stating, “No, we are not afraid at all. It is good that we have a show which attracts a lot of competition.”

Despite ongoing challenges from supply chain issues and inflation, BMW raised its annual outlook for its margin on earnings before interest and taxes in the automotive segment. As a result, shares of BMW have seen a 13% increase year-to-date.

As the automotive industry continues to pivot towards electromobility, BMW seeks to establish itself as a leading force in this rapidly growing segment. The unveiling of the Vision Neue Klasse represents a significant step towards achieving this goal, showcasing BMW’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle space.
