The president of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Aloizio Mercadante, announced a special line of credit for investment in data centers in Brazil. The budget will be R$2 billion and is part of Mission 4 of Nova Indústria Brasil.

According to the federal government, the new line of credit is made up of resources from BNDES and the Universal Fund of Telecommunications Services, managed by the Ministry of Communications. According to Mercadante, for projects in the North and Northeast regions, the interest rate will be 6.13%. For other regions, the rate will be 8.5%.

“It is a sector that will allow us to have more data dominance; it will encourage data services to support these activities in the software field, and we must promote all services related to the data center in Brazil”, which said Mercadante during the New Industry. In the assessment of the president of BNDES, the country can lead the segment. “Now, we are going to be accredited by BNDES, we want national content and we want services that are ordered and contracted here. We are going to leave an auxiliary line together with the data center to do it”, he said.

According to Mercadante, investment in artificial intelligence will be “decisive” for the economy and for Brazil.

At the ceremony, BNDES also announced, together with the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep), new lines to support digitization plans for micro, small and medium-sized companies (MSME). The action is part of the Digital Transformation modality of the Brasil Mais Produtivo Program, which seeks to digitize business with the Senai consultancy.
