SÃO PAULO (Reuters) – The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved this Monday 10 billion reais in financing for works under the federal government’s Novo PAC in the State of São Paulo.
Of the total amount, 6.4 billion reais will be for public contributions in the public-private project to implement the Intercidades Eixo Norte Train (TIC Eixo Norte), which will connect São Paulo to Campinas, the BNDES said in a note.
The remaining 3.6 billion reais will be directed to the acquisition of 44 trains as part of the São Paulo metro line 2-green extension project, which currently connects Vila Madalena to Vila Prudente. According to the bank, the line will be extended by 8.2 km and will gain eight new stations.
According to BNDES, the signing of the contract with the State government will be done in the presence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after his recovery from the hip operation, which will take place at the end of the week.
