Bnei Akiva’s Secretary General Yair Shahal will end his position as Bnei Akiva’s youth movement secretary at the end of the current year of activity. This summer, Shahal will complete a 6-year term as secretary general (the longest secretary general since the movement was founded) that will sign a chapter of about 18 years of activity and work in the Bnei Akiva movement in a variety of positions. Shahal announced his decision in recent days to the movement’s chairman of the movement, Rabbi Chaim Druckman, and to other members of the management.

Shahal (43), a father of six, a resident of Carmi Tzur in Gush Etzion, previously served in the movement as coordinator of the Southern District during the disengagement, head of the factories department, deputy director of education and fulfillment and chief financial officer of the movement. In the coming weeks, an orderly procedure will begin for the movement to select a new secretary general for the movement.

Shahal announced this morning his decision to the communists and the movement’s activists in a special letter in which he explained his decision. Among other things, he wrote – “After all this and after many deliberations and consultations with Rabbi Druckman, I decided it was time to renew in both the personal and the movement aspect. The position of secretary general is always limited in time and usually ranges from three to five years – in order to create a reality of constant renewal in the movement. I get to serve in the position for the sixth year. For a long and significant period. It will also be a great privilege to see the movement renewed, developed and deepened even further. “
